Meet Liz Lees

I’m Liz, a professional artist, writer, actor and creative educator based in County Durham. Creativity has been a constant throughout my life, taking me from painting and drawing to theatre, writing, directing and teaching.

My philosophy is “Every Picture Tells a Story.” I believe inspiration can be found in the people we meet, the places around us, animals, landscapes and those everyday moments that stay in our memories. These experiences continue to shape the original artwork I create today.

Inspired by people, places and experience

Inspiration often begins with something simple – a familiar landscape, an interesting face, an animal, a place I have visited or an ordinary moment that catches my attention.

My own life experiences influence the way I see these subjects. I look for character, atmosphere and the story behind what is in front of me. That inspiration might become a line drawing, a study of a person or animal, or a landscape capturing the feeling of a particular place.

For me, art is not simply something to fill a wall. It can hold memories, express emotion and give a familiar person, place or moment a new perspective.

A lifetime shaped by creativity

My creative career spans more than 60 years across art, theatre, acting, directing, writing and education. I hold a Postgraduate Diploma from the Guildford School of Acting and am a qualified teacher, assessor and internal verifier.

I also founded Green Light Theatre, giving me the opportunity to encourage creativity in others. My work has been recognised with a Chamber of Commerce Award, and I have exhibited my artwork across the UK.

Each part of my career has influenced the way I create. Acting taught me to observe people and character, writing developed my love of storytelling, and teaching showed me the value of helping others find confidence in their own ideas. Today, I continue to share that experience through my acting workshops.

Sharing creativity with others

Creativity has also given me the opportunity to connect with and encourage other people. Alongside my artwork, I offer workshops in acting, creative writing and presentation skills, drawing on my experience in performance, education and communication.

My workshops are designed to help people explore their ideas, develop their individual voice and build confidence in expressing themselves. If you would like to discuss a workshop or a piece of artwork, you can contact me directly.
